SIOUX FALLS COMMUNITY INFO

Sioux Falls, in the heart of the Midwest, has the friendliness and hospitality of a small town while offering the convenience and culture of a large city.

With a population of 160,000+, Sioux Falls is home to numerous restaurants; the Washington Pavilion of Arts and Science; the Wells Fargo Cinedome Theater; the Great Plains Zoo; the South Dakota Symphony; an extensive city parks and recreation system, including a 26-mile bike trail; a Convention Center, Arena and the newly constructed Events Center; a restored downtown district with shopping, dining and entertainment; the region's largest shopping mall and the Sanford Sports Complex including the Sanford Pentagon. Sioux Falls is located in the southeast corner of South Dakota, at the intersection of I-90 and I-29.

The history of Sioux Falls began at the falls of the Big Sioux River. Lakota and Dakota tribes arrived sometime around the 18th century and, according to early maps, used the falls as a place to trade with French fur trappers. The falls also drew the attention of early explorers. Sioux Falls was founded by land speculators who hoped to build great wealth by claiming prime town sites before the arrival of railroads and settlers.

Sioux Falls boasts several private schools and universities and a public school system that continues to rank high in national test scores. There are plenty of opportunities for employment including four major medical facilities, three large banking operations and John Morrell & Co. Meat Processors.

The housing market offers historical homes as well as new construction in a myriad of price ranges. There are also several small neighboring towns that are just minutes from Sioux Falls.
